La Iglesia Matriz de Colonia

It was the first church in Uruguay, and in it you can find represented the intense origins of the city of Colonia.

It is located in the Plaza de las Armas, in the heart of the Historic District which emerged as a modest ranch reform Portuguese in 1680.

It is also known as Basilica of the Blessed Sacrament and retains its original religious structure. The years have taken it from being a sacred stage to become a landmark reference worldwide.
Incredibly, it was victim of abuse numerous times of armed conflict, fire and lightning, and was benefited with the same amount of reconstructions. One of his restorations defined its cruciform shape, and improved tiles with its two towers representative.
